Presentation- Craig McClanahan on Sun Java Studio Creator
Pre-talk-talkGroup Discussion:
- Who's using Java 5.0 in production? The show of hands poll indicated about 10 current users, although considerably less using 5.0 in production environments.
- Fisher Plaza suffered a recent power outage which purportedly was caused by an errant flip of the emergency power switch. No problem the switch has been bypassed and won't be used in the near term for emergency relief.
- What tools and utils are being used for performance testing database calls? P6Spy, and a number of similar tools were discussed. Will Iverson unabashedly offered up several of his references which discuss this level of profiling with commonly used frameworks.
- Show of hands poll: how many truly understand the Thread memory model and it's core interaction with the VM, GC? 3/50 brave souls, might be a topic for future meeting there.
- Show of hands poll: what interest level is there in SOA, Web Services? 2/50 responding. Since interest is low, is this work going to other programming languages, platforms?

Presentation-Sun Java Studio Creator'
Craig McClanahan introduced the group to Studio Creator, which targets the 'Corporate Developer' a breed whose focus is information presentation. Typically these developers move into development as domain experts, rather than through formal training in O-O principles. Studio Creator allows development to explore design and run-time behaviors which can ease development of this brand of application. Visual tools integrate datasource binding with bean page elements, providing a suite for rapid development. The interest for this tool to traditional development might incorporate rapid prototyping, and developing design time properties for page elements.
