SeaJUG is an all volunteer effort - which means items such as the website and mailing list are updated as schedules afford. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. We need suggestions/volunteers for topics! If you'd like to donate your time/skills to the cause, contact Nimret Sandhu.

20 Mar 2012 : Java Performance - War stories

VideoVideo      Slides

Over the past 4 years, Apptio has implemented and run a SaaS based hybrid in-memory/on-disk analytics and transaction store (no-sql) similar in concept to SAP's "HANA" in 100% Pure Java. I'll talk about lessons we've learned and tricks we've discovered while coding and tuning the system - everything from multi-threading on 48 cores with a 120 GB Java heap and architecting an elastic compute & data grid to tuning a GWT (Google Web Toolkit) application.

Speaker: Paul McLachlan

Paul is a co-founder and CTO of Apptio, a high-growth venture-backed start-up headquartered in Bellevue. Prior to Apptio, Paul designed performance and diagnostic tools for Java and .NET, first at Compuware/NuMega and more recently at Mercury Interactive and HP.

Paul holds a BS(Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Technology, Sydney.
